New Jersey Golf Foundation Awards Junior Golfer With Prestigious Peter A. Famiano Memorial Scholarsh
Bedminster, N.J., (July 6, 2017) - The New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF), the charitable arm of the New Jersey Section, PGA of America (NJPGA), announced the recipient of the prestigious Peter A. Famiano Memorial Scholarship. Junior golfer Carolyn Wang of Basking Ridge was awarded the scholarship and honored at the 9th Annual New Jersey Golf Foundation Peter A. Famiano Memorial Pro-Am on June 29, 2017, at Crestmont Country Club, in West Orange, N.J. Peter Famiano was the Head Golf Professional at Crestmont Country Club for over 35 years. In honor of Peter, the NJGF created the Peter A. Famiano Memorial Scholarship, which recognizes worthy New Jersey junior golfers for their professionalism, integrity, volunteerism, and willingness to help others. It is a $2,500 annual scholarship that is open to college students of any class year, provided they continue to meet the standards set forth by the Scholarship Committee. The NJGF Scholarship Committee reviews all applications using the following criteria: scholarship achievement, qualities of character and leadership, financial need, volunteer history and future in golf.
"While Carolyn has distinguished herself in the classroom and on the golf course, it's truly inspiring to see her commitment to giving back through volunteer work in the community," said Chris Hunt, Executive Director, New Jersey Golf Foundation. "Peter Famiano was always committed to helping others, and it's rewarding for us to support the continuing education of a remarkable young women who shares Peter's passion to give back." A standout student-athlete while at Ridge High School, Wang served as captain for the Girls' Varsity Golf team for the past two seasons. She earned many awards and accolades as the leader of the team, including being named Golf Athlete of the Month on 5 occasions. A member of the National Honors Society and a Ridge High School NJSIAA Scholar Athlete, Carolyn has also been an active volunteer throughout the community, highlighted by her work at Fellowship Village, where she participated in a breadth of activities with the elderly. Wang also served as a regular volunteer during youth golf clinics at New Jersey National Golf Club. Wang will be attending Lehigh University this fall, majoring in computer engineering.
